Sprinkler Head Spacing Basics
Sprinkler head spacing should be set so each spray pattern slightly overlaps the next one. This helps avoid dry spots and keeps water distribution more even across the lawn. In general, heads are placed based on their spray radius, nozzle type, water pressure, and the shape of the area being irrigated.
Good spacing usually depends on:
- Head-to-head coverage for consistent overlap
- Spray radius and arc selection
- Water pressure and flow rate
- Turf, shrubs, and hardscape edges
For best results, heads should not be spaced too far apart or aimed directly onto sidewalks, driveways, or structures. Proper placement also helps reduce overspray and runoff, especially in Dallas where weather and soil conditions can affect irrigation performance.
If you are planning a new system or adjusting an existing one, Dallas Landscape & Irrigation can evaluate the layout and recommend the right head spacing for your property. To get started, request an estimate.
