Why the base matters
A stable base is the foundation of a great synthetic lawn installation. It helps the turf stay smooth, improves drainage, and reduces shifting over time. At Dallas Landscape & Irrigation, we prepare the site carefully so the finished surface looks natural and performs well.
Common base layers
- Excavation: Remove existing grass, weeds, and loose material.
- Sub-base: Install a compacted layer of crushed rock or decomposed granite for support.
- Fine leveling layer: Add and grade a smaller aggregate to create an even surface.
- Compaction: Compact each layer to help prevent settling and dips.
Drainage considerations
Proper grading is important so water can move away from the area instead of pooling under the turf. In some yards, edging and drainage improvements may also be recommended to support long-term performance.
